Nimbus Is there a place left there for me Somewhere that I belong Or will I always live this way?
Nimbus could feel her lungs fit to burst and hear the blood roaring through her ears as she sprinted through frosted over field. It was the dead of night with a bright full moon hanging among the bright light of the stars. Since the sun had gone down the temperature had dropped sharply leaving the field encased in a layer of fine frost. The frost sparkled like thousands of little gems in the moonlight and gave the entire field and almost fairy tale look about it. In books, it would be night such as this one where the main protagonist would start a long adventure that would raise them to have their names remembered among the stars.
Nimbus ran under the same stars, listing off the names in her head as she shot through the endless field of tall grass and flowers. Atlas, Izar, Gemma, Zibal... On and on she listed them, each name corresponding with her paw steps. The majority of Nimbus' concentration was focused on the dark shape flying in the sky above her. Nimbus had spotted it early in the forest, a bright white owl. In an odd impulse she started to follow it until they were flat out racing each other. Her green eyes glowed eerily in the dark of the night, never straying from the dark shape of the owl. Determined not to be beaten by some feathers for brains, Nimbus increased her pace until she was running even harder and faster. Despite the warning of her body; the burn of her lungs, the screaming of her muscles, Nimbus pushed on through the field.

Lothario "For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'"- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A snow white wolf crept through the mystical frosted fields. The grass crunched appealingly beneath its paws as it wove and ducked through the various vegetation that appeared in its path. The male stood tall, strong on a rock barely big enough for him to stand on, overlooking the meadow. His name, Lothario. His pack, Mirage. A low rumbling bark burst forth from his muzzle, filled with a sort of grim humor. How appropriate that he felt most at home among the cold, chilled beauty that most others found despairing. How appropriate that he blended in among the tall, icy sentinels scattered throughout the fields, their withered branches bare of any sign of life.
Thar surged forward, his forelegs stretching in front of him even as his hind legs stretched out behind as he leapt from his perch, landing with a soft crunch. Without pausing in his landing, the white wolf was off, streaming over the frosted wonderland. The soft hooting of an owl drew his attention skyward. It was a snowy owl, but that was not what had him stumbling. It was the unique animal racing it, for that was the only explanation for its' actions, racing. It was a maned wolf, with emerald eyes. NimbusIs there a place left there for me Somewhere that I belong Or will I always live this way?
Nimbus' face was set in stone like determination as the owl increased its own pace as well and letting out a taunting hoot. Nimbus could feel the cold nipping at her exposed ears and nose but just couldn't bring herself to slow. Nimbus was not a good fighting and an average hunter, but when it came to running, scouting and tracking she was the top of the line. Her big ears were sensitive to even the slightest of sound and her long thin legs were built purely for speed. So those few times she could just run, she felt like she never wanted to stop. Even as Nimbus bounded over a rotting log, she knew she couldn't run forever. She had to stop for something; to rest her tired body, to return to her pack, but it was times like these that really set Nimbus free. It in tuned her with the very nature of a wolf, the deep instinct that was drilled into the very DNA eons ago.
But something did stop Nimbus that night, another wolf to be exact. Just as the maned wolf started to catch up to the white silhouette of the owl above her, she spotted a blur of movement out of the corner of her eyes. Nimbus dug her claws deeply into the earth, sending her entire body skidding to halt. The owl gave out a call of disappointment before it took off into the night. Nimbus ignored the bird in favour of looking at her new company. It was clearly a new wolf, larger than her (though that was rather common) with the fur of bright snow and even bright amber eyes. Nimbus raised her white tipped tail and ready her mahogany body for anything. She tilted her head in silent contemplation before speaking. "I'm sorry for sounding to the point, but who are you?" She asked curiously, but with a hint of caution in her words.

Lothario "For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'"- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lothario sat and wrapped his tail around his paws, clearly at ease. His bright amber eyes took in the sight of the she wolf before him. She had orange-red fur, and white markings with black. He grinned toothily, his expression one of cool calculation. "I don't mind. In fact, I generally prefer to skip the formalities, as they bore me to no end. I am Lothario, beta male of Mirage pack. And you are?" he said, his voice honey smooth, and as cold as the frost beneath him. It was funny in that way. He was cold on purpose, while his alpha female, Althea, was cold without choice. It was her defense mechanism, while for him, well, it just suited his needs. Thar lowered his head so it was more on her level, and grinned again, his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth as his breath misted on the air in front of him.
The beta male chuffed quietly, rising to his paws and circling the maned wolf, noting the sinewy strength in her willowy limbs, and the way she breathed a bit heavily, no doubt from her race with the owl. Lothario returned to his spot on the grass but stayed standing. He heard the swiftly fading hoots of the snowy owl and barked a laugh. He realized now it was the same owl he raced on occasion, not that he won at any point. Nimbus watched the male steadily, but seeing at how ease he was she managed to relax a little. Lowering her tail and relaxing from her stance she took a moment to observe this strange male. He was larger than her, as most wolves were and had a brilliant white coat that she had never seen before on a wolf. The way the other wolf stood was really what interested her, he didn't seem threatened by her at all. Was he really so trusting or just over confident?
Nimbus couldn't help but laugh at the male's words but quickly covered it up with a mask of cold detachment. "Yes, formalities are always very troublesome and rather boring after a while. I am Nimbus of the Agonia pack." She responded lightly, not giving anything away but a twitch of her ear at the other wolf's voice.
Nimbus couldn't help but tense again when the male- Lothario she quickly corrected herself- circled her like she was prey. The mane on the back of her neck stood straight on end, quivering with the tension riddling through her body. When Lothario sat before her once more she sent him a withering glare. "See something you like, or are you just trying to bait me into fighting you?" She asked sarcastically but making no move, showing she was just setting boundaries with the male.

Lothario "For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'"- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lothario gave a coughing bark of laughter, his eyes sparkling. "I always thought so, although I do suppose it is at odds with my pack rank, but that cannot be helped, now can it? Well now, an Agonia wolf, how interesting." he nearly purred, his lips pulling back slightly to reveal pearly white canines. He stood and lowered his head to look her in the eyes. "I haven't seen a wolf the likes of you around before, are you new to the area?" he asked curiously, his ears slanting back only slightly as he dug his claws into the ground. He found this she wolf interesting. She obviously wasn't cut out to be a fighter, or even a hunter. Not to mention the fact that he had not heard of a maned wolf in Agonia pack.
Lothario chuckled again, the sound a low growl in the back of his throat. "It depends. I've never seen a maned wolf before, only heard of them, and I've never seen a wolf in general that is so finely shaped for running." he said, lifting his shoulders and letting them fall easily, although the faint lifting of his hackles betrayed his wariness at her tone. Nimbus Is there a place left there for me Somewhere that I belong Or will I always live this way?
Nimbus couldn't help but smile at Lothario's words and chuckled at his words. "I was not aware there was a set of rules that the beta had to follow. If there is, should I be honored to meet such a wolf of high standing in the Mirage pack? I think meeting the beta of the Mirage pack is far more interesting then meeting a wolf of the Agonia pack. " She commented lightly, not at all disturbed by how show of fangs. She took a step back when he looked into her eyes not wanting to be too close to the male. Eventually she couldn't take the intense star and cast her eyes away from Lothario. Nimbus looked at the sky again half hoping she would see the owl again but was disappointed. The clear void of the night sky looked back down at the maned wolf, not disturbed by the winds of any owl's wings. Turning her attention back to Lothario, she cocked her head to the side and watched the wolf warily.
"I have been in the Agonia pack for three years now, so I am hardly new per say." Nimbus said shortly, not going into any more detail then that.
Nimbus let out a growl of her own, but it was not threatening more assuring. "My kind is rather rare, the only other maned wolf I have seen is my own mother. Then again, I don't think I have ever meet a wolf that has looked like you. At least not in my pack." She said curiously and flushing slightly at the compliment from Lothario but pointedly over looking it.
